There comes a time when the best next step is to walk away from the table you aren’t given a seat at and move toward a table of your own-- this is juniperxiomara.com for me.
Rooted in the experiences of poor, brown, queer, trans, femmes, from the only perspective I know (mine), this platform will uplift the voices and existences of those that possess beauty this world has yet to appreciate. Through writing, videography, photography, art and so many other medias, I am excited to gather and publish not only my work, but the work of so many other powerful, badass femmes and folks.
As a 20 year old femme studying at the University of California, Berkeley (this is not a promotion), I look forward to sharing what the world looks like from my eyes. Growing up in the US as a Mexican child, I was taught that our feelings and thoughts were not to be shared outside our home, especially for femmes. There is value privacy, according to every brown elder I’ve interacted with. But there is also is value in storytelling, this I know. I intend on offering myself to the world of young (and old) brown femmes looking for proof that they aren’t alone in this world. You aren’t alone.
For so many reasons, I know that my words may not be as valued as the silver spoon white cis boy sitting next to me in class who challenges everything our professor says, not for content but to be heard… but after all, chingonas are known to speak up even when not being listened to.
Juniperxiomara.com is me speaking up, I hope you listen.
